I’m packed and ready to go to Cape Town. Almost.
The only thing I don’t have quite yet is my passport. The exact whereabouts of my passport is known only to the South African Consulate in London who (when I finally spoke to them yesterday after trying all over Christmas and New Year) said it should be dispatched this afternoon - to reach me Saturday morning. Sadly that doesn’t quite tie up with my flight - scheduled to leave in about 45 minutes.
Tempting as it is to lay the blame for missing my outgoing fixed date, non-refundable, non-upgradeable flight on someone else I’ll resist. Instead I’ll take solace in the fact that I have now got at least another day to do various things that had been pushed down the list. The whole leaving experience should be a little calmer and I’ll probably end up going straight to the Media Village base rather than spending a few days getting to know Cape Town - I hadn’t actually booked a hotel anyhow!
I rang Media Village to let them know the news and they were encouraging and looking forward to me arriving when I do. If everything goes well and I get my passport back tomorrow then I should still be there for the start of the course on Monday.
Since you are reading this I’ll also take the time to write a little more about what I’m actually going to be doing in South Africa. Watch this space.
