A quick update for all of you (it’s time I went to bed really - early starts and all…).
The flight was smooth and I was met by two lovely guys at the Airport, who we’ll call Timmy and Alret (because they are named as such). Alret drove me back to Kalk Bay, which is around 30 minutes from the airport - through stunning scenery. I guess I was there at about 11. As predicted I didn’t sleep so much, so I went straight to my room and dozed a while until more people turned up.
My room is a dorm that I share with five others - a bit of a change from the last few years. I’m feeling younger already - I’m almost at the top of the age range :-)
We registered, paid all our money, chatted to one another (guys from USA, UK, Germany, Canada, Uganda, Namibia, South Africa, Switzerland), walked, payed cards and ate before our commisioning evening.
Today we had a 6:30 breakfast which was followed by a day of introductory lectures from various people on the base here. This afternoon we walked around Kalk Bay and bought some ice creams. I’m sun burnt already. Again.
Just been out for a cappucino with everyone - genuinely lovely day. Except I’m now full of caffeine and not really sleepy.
I also have internet access and should get wireless pretty soon so I’ll be able to e-mail you all and update the blog regularly.
