Time is flying. On Thursday and Friday we had the last two sessions with Ken. On Thursday we were meant to be going to one of the schools in a local township. An administrative error meant that we got there and they didn’t have anything for us to do. It was good to see the school though and it was my first glimpse of the level of accommodation and living that these people have. It’s not so great, but I guess it’s not as bad as I had imagined. In the winter and deeper in the townships I bet it’s much worse. Next Thursday we’ll get to meet some school kids properly. The language barrier should be interesting - they only speak Xhosa fluently (one of the 17 or so official South African languages) - let’s see what we can do.
Today we went to Cape Town for flags and other things for out cultural evening. Fun, fun, fun! Got back and now I’m attempting to write up my book report and journal for Monday. Frankly I’m absolutely knackered and don’t particularly want to conform the way I write my book report to the structure they have laid down. I’ve written a on page introduction that doesn’t come close to matching it. I might leave reworking it for tomorrow evening.
Tomorrow we are going to Full Gospel Church in Fish Hoek. Very much looking forward to it. I’ve been invited to go for a Christmas meal with a kind family I met last week at VCC (Valley Christian Church). Gareth and his family are getting together for a late Christmas meal - I think we will head over there directly from Church - I think I will take my journal with me in case I have any time to ‘be creative’.
