Last night the americans entertained us as only they could with a veritable feast, music and entertainment. Ali and Tamsin (from my home church in London) were visiting so we had an all British table!
As with all cultural evenings it was a bit of a break for the norm and a party. Like the African countries we ate with our hands, only this time it wasn’t pap and salsa but rather less messy burgers and corn. For desert we had smores, which are a traditional campfire foodstuff made by squashing a melted marshmallow between two biscuits with some chocolate. We had a candle on which to melt the marshmallow, which wasn’t so easy - we mostly just set fire to the marshmallows and Tamsin seemed to enjoy doing this rather too much.
They did a great presentation about how the states started (highly abridged!) and their love for George Bush (they seriously like him, it’s bizarre). Much of the evening was spent being silly with the Union Flag whenever Britain was mentioned. I’m rapidly regressing to a more childlike mentality - frankly I love it and it’s positively impacting my faith too.
Tomorrow is a trip to the clinic in Cape Town to have jabs done for outreach. I actually had all of them done already so am blessed with a free afternoon that I might spend chilling or possibly spend with Ali and Tamsin before they head back.
s’mores are amazing! i am glad you got to experience the pure wonderous goodness that is a s’more, you are now enlightened. ;) plus eating with you hands is just plan fun! you should do it more often, really you should! and isn’t it fun eating like a kid sometimes? i fully enjoy it!
