As promised in the last post, here are some details of my visit to Uganda.
On the fourth of April we will be heading to a small village called Kitwe. This is in the Ugandan district called Ntungamo - the most fertile area of the country. Whilst there is enormous poverty there, few go hungry due to the plentiful harvests of Bananas, Pineapples, Mangos and various other crops.
We will be living right next door to the Kitwe health centre (see below). The health centre has 26 staff - all paid well under $10 a day.

People cross over from Tanzania and the DRC in order to get access to the limited health services that this clinic can offer. Mostly looking after children.

It’s very difficult conditions there - they don’t have a reliable source of electricity to keep the refrigerators on to store drugs and whilst they have 120 beds, they have about 170 in patients.

We won’t just be working in the clinic, but also in the nearby schools and churches. There are a team of eleven of us heading to Kitwe - you can keep track of us over on our new outreach blog (not yet complete - but go and look anyway).
In addition to a lack of electricity, we will not have reliable (if any) running water. It’s going to be fun!
How can you write an outreach blog with no electricity?
